About the job

The R&D department is a group of multi-skilled talents united in a common effort to understand, test, master and develop the technologies of tomorrow.
With such a vast and ambitious mission, the department needs minds as brave as they are different, able to change subjects and working groups regularly while staying motivated to discover and take part in the adventure. Teamwork and a sense of communication are strong prerequisites for achieving our goals which surpass the capabilities of a single person or a single team.

About you

You are an experienced professional who likes to hack and understand how computer systems work, from algorithms to hardware. More than anything, you want to build. You are not an expert in all of the following areas but you recognize yourself in them and have a compatible mindset.

Computer enthusiast. You enjoy understanding the inner workings of the technologies you use.
Versatile. You like the fact that technology regularly changes (languages, hardware, environments) to keep up with challenges.
Organized. You know how to work efficiently in a team and you are comfortable with agile methodologies. You are good at summarizing and you are not afraid to lay down the first bricks of a project.
Communicative. You are interested in discovering and sharing new technologies in both French and English.
Up-to-date. You keep yourself informed of technological developments and you have implemented methods to do so.
Developer. You know how to program and script on a regular basis. You have knowledge of software engineering, and you are aware of best development practices (design patterns, repositories use, comments, tests, fuzzing, documentation, CI/CD).
System daemon. You understand how Unix systems work, especially those based on the Linux kernel, such as Ubuntu and Android. You must not be allergic to exotic systems like Windows and MacOS.
Network elf. You are familiar with IP networks and concepts (AS, DNS, Routing, Switching, Peering, IANA, etc). You are not afraid of vxlan, subnet mask calculus or reading an RFC. No one will judge you if you have never connected to Cisco equipment.
Security aware. You have basic knowledge of computer security concepts and you practice them in your daily life. You think security by design is more than a buzzword.

We are building diverse teams. It's OK if you don't tick all the boxes. If you're talented and highly motivated, we'd still like to hear from you. If you…

Are an open-source maintainer or a regular contributor
Are into hacker culture
Maintain a complex infrastructure at home for fun
then you definitely should consider applying.

Profil recherché

The position is remote flexible. When there is no need to be in the same place at the same time, remote work is best. Otherwise when we have to focus on a piece of hardware, we must be able to assemble without it having an impact on your personal life.

#LI-Remote, #LI-Hybrid

The Recruitment Process

The recruitment process is there to let both parties know if they want to work together in the years to come. As everyone's time is precious, we will limit the number of interviews and make a decision within 3 weeks. It is likely that several people from Scaleway attend the same meeting; if you are uncomfortable with this, let us know and we will reschedule.

The usual interview plan is as follows:
- One screening call with HR
- Two tech & human interview with Scalers
- Top management interviews

We treat every candidate equally in our recruitment process. Even if you don't meet 100% of the job’s requirements, we encourage you to apply and tell us why you would be a good fit!
